Bad patient

I'm afraid that I am a very bad patient.  I was REALLY upset after breaking my foot.  I was so excited to begin yoga again, and start walking so that I could eventually start running again (I still have plans to run a marathon one day!).  Plus, we were starting a new 'no processed foods' journey, which of course means quite a bit of cooking.  Doesn't work so well on crutches.  And the idea of another surgery, another recovery, another week feeling like an MIA mom, is just awful.

My sweet, sweet husband saw all of this and decided to take my x-rays to see the doctor (I don't go until Monday).  The dr says based on what he sees I do NOT have to have surgery.  Ohh, I am SO thankful!

I'm still not a great patient.  It's horrible being dependent on others for everything.  I can't even get a bowl of cereal because I can't carry anything and walk at the same time.  And I'm awful on crutches.  I lose my balance and fall constantly, so trying to cook right now is a real no.  Plus, my kids are so honest it hurts.  They are sick of having a 'sick' momma.  I can't jump on the trampoline or go down to the creek and see their fort, I am in bed with my foot iced and elevated quite a bit, and they have to be 'careful' when they try to sit with me.  Oh well, this too shall pass.  If only I weren't so bored - it gives me a lot of time to feel guilty.

My adorable and amazing hubby planned a 3 day weekend in SA to celebrate my release from the dr after my hysterectomy for this weekend.  So we are now at this beautiful 4 star hotel enjoying some much needed time together.  It stinks that my foot is broken, but its wonderful to have Carl all to myself.  And the kids are thrilled to be with their aunts and cousins for a few days.  As a matter if fact, the first thing Carlye asked when I fell was "Do I still get to, I mean, do you still get to go to San Antonio?"

You've Got To Be Kidding......

See that?  That's a picture of my left foot.  See the middle of it?  That's where I have BROKEN MY LEFT FOOT AT AN ANGLE!!!!!!!!

How, you may ask?  Falling down my stairs.  The stairs that I walk down multiple times every single day.  So great.

Guess what?  I was just released by the doctor last Thursday because it's been 6 weeks since my hysterectomy.

Guess what else?  I get to go see the orthopedic surgeon Monday morning because they are probably going to have to do surgery on my feet.

Wanna know what?  I am really, really, depressed right now........

Robert Earl Keen, Twinkle's,Trampolines and Choir Concerts

On Saturday night Carlye (and the rest of the Hill Country Youth Orchestra) performed with Robert Earl Keen.  We weren't allowed to video tape anything, but she really had fun playing.  I love listening to her fiddle!

Nathanael's violin playing is going really well, too!  And he's excited because his private instructor just asked him to be a part of the Twinkle orchestra.  He is so proud.

It's been really, really windy today.  53 mph windy.  Metal signs blew down, stop lights came off - even roofs were blowing down the road.  When we got home, this is what we found:

Our trampoline was transformed into a UFO.  The top netting part was completely crushed, and the actual frame is bent as well.  The kids are so sad!

Noah's school play was last Thursday.   He played the part of George Washington.  We didn't get any pictures, only video - I'll try to upload that later.  Noah was SO proud.  Afterwards he took a very deep bow as everyone applauded.  When that was over, they sang songs and played instruments, and Noah enjoyed the entire evening.  He's on the right in blue and green stripes playing the triangle.

Sausage Supper Tickets and Pepperoni Shoes

Our school just finished our yearly fund raiser.  Nathanael and Noah both wanted to sell sausage supper tickets (I didn't), and both of them had a goal.  Noah wanted to sell enough to win Spurs Tickets, and Nathanael wanted to sell enough tickets to make it to the bowling party.

Both boys made the bowling party.  After that they started naming the top 3 sellers in each grade - and we were so surprised when Nathanael came in 3rd place for his grade!  Poor Noah's name wasn't called.  He just sat there, as they called name after name, blinking his eyes as fast has he could because he didn't want to cry in front of his friends.  What Noah didn't know is that the top 10 sellers school wide are not included in the grade placings.  They started naming the top 10 sellers school wide and.....

And Noah was #7!  Yay, Noah!  He proudly marched up and claimed his four Spurs Tickets.  Thank heavens no one had picked them yet!  Mission accomplished.  The total raised was $43,753.19

(FYI - the tallest red head in the middle and the little boy standing in front of Noah are both in the 4th grade and have been Nathanael's two best friends since 1st grade.)

Side story - every morning our family puts on the Armor of God.  This morning when Carl, Nathanael and Noah go to the 'shoes of the preparation of the gospel of peace' Noah said, "the shoes of pepperoni of the gospel.'  At that point no one could continue and just fell apart laughing!

My Valentine

For Valentine's Day my sweet and amazing husband (with a bit of help from our daughter) planned a wonderful picnic for just the two of us.  He set up a comfy spot right next to the creek in our backyard, made a fire, and picked up my favorite Italian food for lunch.  He had fresh blackberries, blueberries and strawberries, and Sparkling Grape Juice to top everything off.  It was so sweet and peaceful.  I loved having time just the two of us to listen to the creek gurgle, the birds sing, and just talk.  It was the best Valentine's Day I've ever had.  Thank you, Carl!!  I love you!

Happy Heart Day

Happy Heart Day, everyone!  The kids made their own valentines this year, and I thought that they turned out adorable!!  Carlye made these fortune cookie valentines out of pretty paper:

The "fortune" inside was this:

These were Nathanael's:

And Noah's:

All in all I thought that they turned out pretty cute!

And on a completely unrelated note:

Today as Noah and I were driving home from his school Valentines Day party he asks me, "Mom, do people make good meat?"  "WHY would you ask me that?" I said, very concerned.  "Because that chocolate loving guy on the movie (translation - Willy Wonka played by Johnny Depp) said that people are edible."  I must confess, it took me a few minutes to figure out what he was talking about.  I mean, we haven't watched Willy Wonka in a really, really long time.  Then he says, "Yeah, he said it was frowned upon in most countries."

Yes, Noah.  Yes it is.

Moral Music

Today I was watching Full House with Carlye, and I realized something.  First of all, I miss tv shows that you can watch together as a family, but that's a whole 'nother point.  What I realized that I missed today was moral music.  That's right - moral music.  The music that always came on at the the end of TV shows - Full House, Family Ties, Home Improvement - that let you know it's time for the moral.  Or maybe I just miss morals......either way, I love watching these favorites from my childhood with my kids.

And I like that there are morals at the end, too.

Carlye's Viola

Music has always been a big part of my life, and it is a big part of our kids live's as well. Nathanael plays the guitar and the violin, Carlye plays the viola, and Noah plays the piano.  And all of my children LOVE to sing.  Sadly, none of us are any good at singing  (except for Carl, of course - and, to be fair, Nathanael is really getting better now that he's in choir), but we enjoy it nonetheless.  Carlye is really improving with her viola, and Nathanael just recently began taking violin lessons as well.  I love having our home filled with music!
